New technologies : old human ways .

While reading an article on the mythic power of Stonehenge memories of an incident from my youth came calling . A great longing settled on me . A sense of a great loss that filled me with feelings that could not be focused or refined , nor centred on  any singular cause . Below are the words that flowed in answer to those ghostly sensations that were resurrected while reading a magazine article in a dentist`s waiting room :

Stonehenge is a real misnomer for me.Too basic and mundane a word coupling for conveying the real ancient meaning of this meeting ground for our ancestors and they deities ; words too bleached of colour and drained of strength to encapsulate any vision of what this arcane temple once represented . Calvary hill , the bodhi tree, ”Stonehenge” all silent victims of our brave new world`s new Parthenon of a million Gods that we genuflect and worship each moment on the alters and keyboards of Technology . Give me a canopy of stars , stones of power thrust into the earth  herself , sounds and sights the defy logic`s reason in a world still in awe to the old nature Goddess . Damp earth , bright Moon and stones clad in silver edged shadows are her interface .Stonehenge , today, is a wounded and deserted place , its dead substance tarted up and sold to  technology addicted souls . I once , in my youth , stole into its dormant sanctum at midnight . I fell into a deep well of sleep and dreamt of  our ancient fathers .Now there , for me , lay  true power ; hidden but not unseen , invisible but still felt in the bones of a man . It`s not what we see with our cameras electronic eyes , but what we feel in the pit of our stomach that truly move us .What we see without looking and feel without touch .
I think we have forsaken  our human senses in favour of  the world of machines and pixel screens .
As here I write an obituary to the old ways , dressed in stones , in this flashing temple of our cyber-world`s  medium of disembodied life. Perhaps I miss the power of my youth.Perhaps we miss the dormant , forgotten ,  energies that gave  birth to our imaginations .

Feeding Crows

Hello World , just out of bed and I am slowly sipping my ever so wonderful , even magical , first cup of coffee from my favourite South Park mug . Is not the transition into full wakefulness ameliorated and made more comfortable by a mug of steaming , aromatic java .
The view from my window reminds me of my usual first chore of my new day : feed my pals , the crows .
There they are ; sat on my garden fence , hopping around in expectation of  food delivered free by the two legged  life - form , that`s me .They keep better time than any mechanical clock .
Making up their food , on automatic , my mind wonders and ponders on all things crowish :

Crows, wonderful crows.I`ve been feeding them for years.Quite a few generations have shared my food with me,bringing their young each season or so to say “hello” to the human they have checked-out for years.Took me an age of feeding them before they would allow a catching of my eye,and not noisily head for the trees. I sometimes ponder who runs this cross species relationship. They sit an my fence at the same time each day and caw for attention. If tardiness takes my time then they will caw in union, drawing closer to my house door.Life reaches out to life. The responsibility for my actions is understood and,so far,is still enjoyed.Crows love cheese;dripping and bread, and oily fish. I wonder how they see me: a gourmet god or a slave and patsy.Does it matter.
They get the food and live as Corvine kings,I receive their tolerance and tentative acceptance.Service keeps my feet on the ground while they fly free and high above my human world. It is so good to see.I envy the wild and untamed crows

Buddhist Thoughts

Our minds are wonderfully limitless constructs : it`s the thinking that gets us into trouble .
The most sophisticated , conscious generating , creation in the known Universe and nearly everybody living has never taken a test on how to use it .
My BLOGS are intended to delve deeply into what we really have between our ears and behind our eyes , and in our hearts.
How we underestimate what it can do
How it creates our emotional atmosphere
How the mind is seen in new quantum thought ; in spiritually , and in the mundane affairs of everyday existence .
If you have a mind , then , please feel free to join in .
As a Mahayana Tibetan Buddhist I would like to post this first blog with the following Buddhist thinking on the nature of mind from that perspective :

Just as the ocean has waves, and the sun has rays, so the mind’s own radiance is its thoughts and emotions. The ocean has waves, yet the ocean is not particularly disturbed by them. The waves are the very nature of the ocean. Waves will rise, but where do they go? Back into the ocean. And where do the waves come from? The ocean.
In the same manner, thoughts and emotions are the radiance and expression of the very nature of the mind. They rise from the mind, but where do they dissolve? Back into the mind. Whatever rises, do not see it as a particular problem. If you do not impulsively react, if you are only patient, it will once again settle into its essential nature.
When you have this understanding, then rising thoughts only enhance your practice. But when you do not understand what they intrinsically are—the radiance of the nature of your mind—then your thoughts become the seed of confusion. So have a spacious, open, and compassionate attitude toward your thoughts and emotions, because in fact your thoughts are your family, the family of your mind. Before them, as Dudjom Rinpoche used to say: “Be like an old wise man, watching a child play.”

Well then , that was short and sweet ..........penny for any thoughts
Geoff .
